Book Review: The Dragon's Heart by Eden Ashe

The Dragon’s Heart by Eden Ashe is the first book in her Dragon Lore series. I loved this new world filled with surly sexy dragons and cannot wait to read more in this series.

I am going to be a bit “me” here and be overly honest. I didn’t expect much from this book and I don’t know why. For whatever reason my assumptions fell on the side of “this is going to be full of tropes” about Alpha-hole males and women that take their shit. I was so wrong. This was a great story and the writing is extremely wonderful. There was enough focus on the dragon world building this didn’t feel like a paranormal romance “that just happens to have men that shift in an animal”. Again, an applaud to the writing. Not only could the author nail the more sensual scenes, but didn’t hold back when it came to the kick-assery that happens.

Daniel was certainly surly and yes, maybe a bit of an ass, but not in a way that made cringe with any kind of link to abuse. He was a very old dragon that has having FEELINGS. EEK, he was scared. (Don’t tell him I said that!!) Shelby’s ability to let Daniel’s bs roll off of her cracked me up and she really was a great character with a lot of depth. I couldn’t help myself, I adored her!

The Dragon’s Heart is a great love story with some bloody fight scenes and layers of feelings. Like an onion, Shelby might have had to peel back some of those eye-burning layers but the journey made a great escape for this reader. The Dragon’s Heart was a brilliant first step into the Dragon Lore series and left me wanting more. If you are a fan of paranormal romance and shifters, I highly recommend it!
